Sovereign 2019
/This recent New Years Eve, for the first time since I was probably 17, I stayed in. No parties, no alcohol, no fireworks. Just a cozy home, some tea, and lingering Christmas tree lights. I stayed bundled up with my babe Elessar and we instead chose to spend some time reflecting on 2018 so we could release what we were ready to let go of, and allow space for the new.
We used a wonderfully comprehensive “Review, Reflect, Release” workbook created by Evyan Whitney, and the last section was all about stepping into the new year. One of the first prompts asked what “my word or phrase for 2019 will be.” Usually this kind of question takes me a bit of time to think about…but immediately the word “Sovereign” popped into my head (thanks to Ele).
Sovereign (adj.) : possessing supreme or ultimate power.
it’s not a groundbreaking word, but it speaks to me. Especially with Dave no longer here, as someone who I leaned on frequently for support in many areas of my life. I feel like he showed me what I’m capable of and a glimpse of what’s possible, and here I am, starting this new year, walking on my own two feet carrying out this journey of art and passion and space expression that I began with him.
I played as Dave’s muse for a photoshoot a while back and I think this photo he captured channels a sovereign vibe.
Clearly, she’s the ruler of her life. The ruler of her domain. The ruler of her space, her body, her mind, her heart, her spirit. Nobody can fuck with her. She has a deep knowing of who she is and lives out her divine mission in every moment. She trusts herself and she trusts the universe. She is kind and open hearted to all but stays fiercely true to her boundaries.
I feel that’s what being a queen is truly about. It’s not about having power over others; it’s about possessing complete and total power over herself - spiritually, mentally, emotionally, physically, financially. Welcoming and thriving in interconnectedness but being grounded in her autonomy. This is what I’d like to step into more of in 2019.
Like I’ve said before, the point of my space design is to show that we are all the Space Queens of our own universes, and we should create space for ourselves that makes us feel absolutely regal and majestic and fired up on life (physically and metaphysically; however that looks and feels to you).
It's about owning yourself, owning what you like, owning your authenticity and uniqueness and weirdness and inspiring others to do the same
...because we are all infinitely powerful and cosmically royal beings lucky enough to live on this magnificently beautiful material plane…so why not own that shit?
What’s your word for 2019?
